Introduction to the meaning and characteristics of metal mold casting
In the casting industry, there are many kinds of casting. Metal mold casting is one of them, also known as hard mold casting. It is a casting method to pour liquid metal into metal mold to obtain castings. The mold is made of metal and can be used repeatedly. At present, there are some restrictions on the weight and shape of castings that can be produced by metal mold casting. For example, ferrous metals can only be castings with simple shape; The weight of castings shall not be too large; The wall thickness is also limited, and the smaller wall thickness of the casting cannot be cast.
The mechanical properties of castings produced by metal mold are higher than those of sand mold castings. In the same alloy, the average tensile strength can be increased by about 25%, the average yield strength can be increased by about 20%, and its corrosion resistance and hardness can also be significantly improved; There is a wide range of mold materials for metal mold casting, such as ordinary carbon steel, cast iron, mold steel, etc; Metal mold casting can reduce the amount of molding sand by 50% ~ 80%, even without molding sand at all, save the equipment, cost and a lot of manpower required for molding sand transportation and sand treatment, reduce the harm of dust and harmful gas, and improve the working environment; The mechanical properties of metal castings are generally about 15% higher than those of sand castings because of their large thermal conductivity and heat capacity, fast cooling speed, fine metal crystal structure and less segregation.
Sand mold or a small amount of core sand can not be used in casting production, which can save molding materials, reduce sand treatment and molding sand transportation equipment, and greatly improve the environment of casting production.
